KEZA was born out of a simple request from master cheese ripener, Xavier, who desired a cheese trolley where "the cold could come from above." Sarran, a renowned designer, took this challenge and created a piece that not only met the functional requirements but also added an element of curiosity and excitement for the guests. The result was a stylized wooden structure on industrial wheels, which opens and deploys to reveal a presentation table.
KEZA's unique properties have made it a reference for quality cheese serving trolleys in gastronomy since 2007. Apart from its primary function, it also serves as an intriguing object, stimulating the curiosity of diners. The trolley is easily maneuvered by the waiter and then deployed, presenting fine cheeses in an aesthetically pleasing and taste-preserving manner.
The trolley is manufactured in small-scale production, with a solid wood rolling structure and interiors made of synthetic materials. The assembly by bolts and metal connectors facilitates easy worldwide after-sales services. KEZA is the first piece of a family that currently includes five trolleys made up of several common parts, allowing for economies of scale.
The design process for KEZA was not without its challenges. Sarran had to consider numerous constraints, including the efficiency of cold distribution, material selection, energy usage, structural strength, durability, handling, and hygiene. Despite these challenges, Sarran succeeded in creating a design that has remained essentially the same since its prototype in 2008, with only minor adjustments to improve its functionality.
KEZA's design excellence was recognized in 2016 when it was awarded the Golden A' Furniture Design Award. This prestigious accolade is granted to marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with their desirable characteristics.
In conclusion, Patrick Sarran's KEZA is a testament to the power of design in transforming everyday objects into functional works of art. It is a perfect blend of innovation, aesthetics, and functionality, setting a high standard for future designs in the gastronomy industry.
